Summarize this page with

Fraud detection evaluates risk and helps prevent an abusive transaction. A chargeback guarantee adds a contractual promise about eligible losses after an approved order. Buyers should compare the decision and the reimbursement terms separately, because a guarantee does not make every dispute disappear.

  1. 1Inspect the order decision
  2. 2Read coverage terms
  3. 3Preserve fulfillment evidence
  4. 4Reconcile the claim
A practical sequence for the question covered in this guide.

Name the purchase

A device-risk service can identify suspicious sessions. A transaction engine can score or decide an order. A guarantee provider can reimburse eligible chargebacks under an agreed policy. A dispute-management product can assemble and submit evidence. One provider may offer several products, but the contract determines what is included.

Riskified's guarantee explanation describes liability transfer for eligible approved orders. Its product page also describes the approved-order commercial model. Confirm your actual contract instead of assuming a universal rate.

Compare coverage at the order level

Comparison of the methods and conditions discussed in this section.
Question Evidence to inspect
Was the order approved for a guarantee? Guarantee status and decision timestamp
Is the reason covered? Product policy, dispute reason and exclusions
Was fulfillment eligible? Required shipment, delivery or digital-delivery evidence
Was the claim filed correctly? Submission deadline, required data and recorded status
What happens after recovery? Reversal, reimbursement and reconciliation terms

The Signifyd fraud protection policy sets conditions around approved orders, fulfillment and covered reasons. Other Signifyd protection packages can have broader coverage. Evaluate the selected product rather than applying one policy to all offerings.

Keep the pre-payment layer visible

A stolen session, related account or automated checkout can create risk before authorization. ShieldLabs supplies current device, network and account context at that stage. It does not itself supply a chargeback guarantee. Transaction screening and guarantee approval remain separate decisions.

Adding every available layer is not automatically efficient. Identify the evidence missing from the current flow and measure whether the added integration improves outcomes enough to justify its cost and operational work.

Test the reconciliation path

An illustrative order can be approved, fulfilled and later disputed. Your records should show whether the payment engine accepted it, whether the provider guaranteed it, which dispute reason arrived and whether reimbursement was approved. Those are four separate facts.

Do the same for an order shipped after a guarantee decline and for a returned order with no remaining loss. Ask the provider to explain the applicable terms and workflow. Avoid putting real customer data into an unapproved test environment.

FAQ

Does a guarantee replace detection?

Guarantee providers usually assess orders, but contractual reimbursement and risk detection are distinct capabilities. Confirm both.

Does every chargeback mean fraud?

No. Disputes can involve delivery, quality, duplicate processing or other reasons. Keep reason codes and confirmed outcomes distinct.

Which providers should I compare?

The comparison includes Signifyd, Forter and Riskified for relevant commerce and protection products. Match the purchased package to the liability you need to transfer.
